SELF-GUIDED TOURS

Arrive at any time during business hours and you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff members.  The self-guided tour through this gallery-style Education Facility allows you to experience a fully-functioning Earthship that combines passive solar architecture, thermal mass construction, renewable energy, integrated water systems that include indoor food growing, and the use of natural and repurposed materials.

We recommend you allow about an hour to see everything. There are media rooms and a gallery with exhibits, as well as outdoor pathways so you can get a better look at the ongoing construction projects.  As you walk through the building and the surrounding outdoor area at your own pace, signs, displays, information binders, videos, and slideshows will educate you on the different components of the Earthship concept.  Please note that the Visitor Center is an Earthship designed to educate the public and is not set up as a fully furnished home.

Books, videos, and other merchandise items are available for purchase in the main gallery space so you can continue to learn and share after leaving Earthship Biotecture World Headquarters. These items can also be purchased from our online store.

Cost for this tour is $8.00 plus tax. A discounted rate of $6.00 plus tax is available for students, teachers, current military and veterans, and seniors. Children 12 and under get in free.

In addition to the self guided tour that goes through our Earthship Visitor Center daily, we also have two kinds of guided tours.

GUIDED TOURS

We offer two types of Guided Tours through the Earthship Visitor Center and the Greater World Community.

Please note that Guided Tours need to be scheduled at least a week in advance. To schedule a tour, please contact the Earthship Visitor Center directly at (575) 613-4409 or visitorcenter@earthship.com. We can be reached every day from 10:00am-4:00pm MST.

1.The Guided Tour through the Earthship Visitor Center includes admittance to the building which is very similar to a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, Packaged Earthship.  The floor plan of the building has been altered and is set up like a gallery.  There is a 10 minute video and a 40 minute slideshow, along with lots of literature, exhibits, and photos.  There is also a gift shop and various pathways outside to walk and see the exteriors of the other structures in the immediate area. One of our friendly staff members will be available to guide your group through this facility and answer all of your questions.

The duration of this type of tour is 1 hour. Cost for this tour is $10.00 plus tax per person. A discounted rate of $8.00 plus tax is available for students, teachers, current military and veterans, and seniors. We can accommodate small groups but there is a $50.00 minimum fee for this tour.

     2. The Guided Tour through the Greater World Community includes the same tour through the Earthship Visitor Center, as well as a tour through several homes/buildings in the community. The duration of this type of tour is 2 hours. Please keep in mind this type of tour needs to start between 10:30 & 11:00am. Cost for this tour is $18.00 plus tax per person. A discounted rate of $15.00 plus tax is available for students, teachers, current military and veterans, and seniors. We can accommodate small groups but there is a $100.00 minimum fee for this tour.

Michael Reynolds addresses the Flint, MI water crisis

In this short clip Michael Reynolds talks about the Flint, MI water crisis.  He points out that in New Mexico, where we only get 8" of annual precipitation, we are able to build buildings that harvest, filter and use their own water four times.  Flint gets 40" of annual precipitation and it should be be relatively simple to design rainwater harvesting systems that would provide clean water to the residents.  He...Read More
